BIO

Lock a heavy metal guitar player up in a room with a couple of doom metal freaks and things can escalate into something very interesting really quickly. This is exactly what happened with Belgian band HRAEFN, who find themselves exploring new territory in a style that has been dubbed “psychedelic doom n’ roll“ or, if you prefer to keep it simple, heavy/doom metal.HRAEFN showcase a love for purified and iconic riffs with plenty of progressive tendencies, only to match them with eerie and emotive vocals and fierce drum work. HRAEFN songs sound like unsettling fever dreams, psychotic episodes, prayers of the damned. But what makes the borderline heavy/doom metal of HRAEFN really stand out, is the level of musicality, the energy and the collar-grabbing quality of their work. The proof is in the pudding, as is shown on HRAEFN’s second EP “RESEARCH INTO INFINITY”, which came out in November 2024 and which was recorded and mixed by Frank Rotthier, who has for example also recorded the break-through albums of Gnome and Psychonaut. The songs on the latest HRAEFN EP can really be considered as 3 singles and have received great reviews - as you can read here.Meanwhile HRAEFN have shared the stage with bands like Opium Heathen, Tangled Horns, Miss Lava (PT) and they are scheduled to open club shows for Wyatt E and Haunted (IT), among others. HRAEFN are knocking on your door...HRAEFN are Michael Sremos (guitar), Terence Gevaert (drums) and Tonny van Bavel (bass/vocals).A quick word on the band name. Hraefn is an Old Norse word meaning 'raven'. In English it is pronounced 'ray-fun', in Flemish we say 'roafen'.

It is very well written, beautifully played, produced softly and carefully. Pleasant!” Mehmet Metal Mayhem“Only 3 tracks, but what tracks they are! Complex compositions, powerful riffs and powerful vocals. Everything works as it should. I'm waiting for more from this crew.” Dezarbuzator
